Usb scan sucks, it’s extremely slow, i would recommend not to buy it if you are pretending to use a portable HD

I installed this a week ago and uninstalled it and returned it. I will break my review down into sections: (I normally don’t write reviews on products I buy unless I really like or dislike them (in this case dislike):

Installation : Standard (easy) – The only thing you need to do to bypass the parking brake being required to watch videos is ground the parking break wire anywhere!

Sound: I have an Acura RSX-S with BOSE speakers and stock head unit – this sounded SO much better than the stock head unit – I could finally hear the stock sub and it made the speakers sound amazing with much more clarity and detail! The equalizer works great and the presets (XPLOD was my fav) sounded really really good.

Video: Great resolution – DVD’s look really good.

Ease of use : This is where this unit needs major improvement – Navigating this thing is a pain! It was very frustrating, not to mention unsafe because it takes your eyes off the road for longer than needed, especially navigating through your IPOD library which I will get into in the next session. Bottom line is the screen touch controls were not responsive enough and navigating through the unit is choppy – as in the processing of the unit is slow – very frustrating! I’m sorry but if the unit is not easy and comfortable to use there is no point of having it!

IPOD use: Horrible! Navigating through my library is soooo frustrating and takes forever! When I get into my library and start navigating through artists, each screen takes at least 5 seconds to load when i scroll down – it is wayyy to choppy and slow and unsafe for driving – I was spending too long staring at it waiting for it to load! Also, there is no alphabetical listing for Artists. Also – say your playing a song on the album you selected and want to navigate to a different album by the same artist – you have to start the WHOLE process of going through your library again to find the artist and album – very very frustrating and time consuming. Also some buttons I would have to hit multiple times (such as the go back button) in order for them to work.

Bottom line: Do not buy this, especially for IPOD use! Ease of Use and IPod Navigation is horrible and if your like me having a touch screen that is user friendly is very important. Trust me, you will spend most of your time frustrated or waiting for screens to load, especially for IPOD. I just got the Pioneer AVH-P4200 and yes, it is a couple hundred more, but DEFINITELY worth it! It is so much faster (everything and IPOD navigation is flawless and sooo much faster), MUCH easier to use, and just feels much more responsive and solid. Plus it has a bigger screen. I’m definitely keeping the AVH-P4200.

This unit is simply great. Appearence is elegant. Touch screen functionality is responsive and very functional – haven’t had the need to use remote yet. DVD quality is amazing with an outstanding picture. There is also plenty of audio power and CDs sound way better as well as movies. I am still running factory speakers so there should be a drastic improvement with after market speakers.

Reason for giving 4 stars is I am not able to figure out how to turn the power off. The unit seems to be designed to stay on all the time. If that is the case, it is a weakness which should not have been there. If there is a way to turn it off, I’ll probably figure out soon… but I have to say it is not apparent.

I am also running video out to an overhead screen in the van and that part works great as well.
